Adrienne Bailon has come a long way since her teenybopper days as a member of girl groups 3LW and Cheetah Girls. She’s traded in her cookie-cutter image, and is determined to reintroduce herself to the music industry. Bailon’s reality show with best friend Julissa Bermudez, Empire Girls: Julissa and Adrienne, was a first attempt to cast off preconceived notions about who she is. “I’m not 16 years old anymore, I’m a grown woman,” Bailon tells VIBE. “I’m not from LA and I am not from a fancy, rich family. I grew up in the projects on the Lower East Side.” Bailon is set to drop her debut album under Ne-Yo’s record label, Compound Entertainment, in early 2013. Fabolous and Daddy Yankee are expected to be featured on the album. Though a first single has not yet been chosen, Bailon will release a test single in a few weeks. In addition to working on her “Latin-infused” R&B album, Bailon is the host of the X-Factor Pepsi pre-show. The pint-sized bombshell says she is honored to work with her boss and mentor Ne-Yo, who has written a few songs on the album, and can’t get enough of Brandy’s new album, Two Eleven. “I’m a huge fan of Brandy’s vocals,” she says. “I love her tone, and her ad-libs are always perfectly placed.” Since Bailon is a native New Yorker, VIBE asked her to share seven of her secret hotspots in New York, from her favorite places to dine to a luxury shoe repair shop she says every woman must go to restore their Christian Louboutin red bottoms.
