Miss Mykie, BET's 106 & Park Host, Shares Fave Restaurants in Houston, and NYC

compiled by Gerren Keith Gaynor
In one meeting with BET producers, Miss Mykie’s life changed forever. When told that she would join rapper Bow Wow, and two Detroit radio personalities, Paigion and Shorty Da Prince, as the new hosts of 106 & Park, Mykie knew her hard work had finally paid off. While it may seem like the Howard University graduate became an overnight success, Mykie’s hosting gig was no fluke. As an aspiring singer in Houston, Mykie built an online presence through mix tapes and independent music videos posted on YouTube, which garnered thousands of page views. Mykie fell on the radar of BET, and was asked to guest co-host the show and, well, you know the rest. Mykie became an instant fan favorite for her spunky persona, and signature Mohawk. VIBE sat down with Miss Mykie for an exclusive interview to get to know her better, where she revealed that she hates to shop, and loves to watch reality TV shows like Bad Girls Club, Basketball Wives LA, and Chrissy and Mr. Jones. She also wants to someday utilize her fine arts degree and take a stab at movies and screenplays. Mykie guides us to her favorite restaurants in her native, Houston, and the one Thai spot that became her addiction since relocating to New York.

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

HOUSTON--“When you go to Houston you have to hit up Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. My favorite dish is the Boudin. I also like the chicken strips, French fries, and dirty rice. I don’t even eat shrimp or crabs, but that’s a whole other story.”
Editorial Review
Legend has it that founder C.H. Pappadeaux was thrown over board while fishing, and proceeded to ride to safty atop of two gigantic mahi-mahi fish tied to fishlining--and so began the start of Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. Whether you buy the old tale, or simply love seafood, Pappadeaux will not disappoint. The dishes you can't leave without trying: the shrimp creole and grits, stuffed shrimp, and the pasta Mardi Gras tossed with crawfish, sausage, and mushrooms. They will reel you in, without a doubt.
