Comedian Royale Watkins' Top Comedy Clubs in the Country

compiled by Gerren Keith Gaynor
Royale Watkins knows a thing or two about making people laugh. For years, the comedian and actor has been entertaining audiences with his humor and charm. He's written scripts for popular shows likes "Are We There Yet?" and Will and Jada Smith's "All of Us," and has starred in movies like "Deliver Us From Eva." But Watkins is a stand-up comedian at heart. He got his start in comedy nightclubs in cities like Washington and New York, and learned the tricks of the trade by top comics like Bernie Mac and Damon Wayans. Years after writing scripts for Def Comedy Jam, Watkins came up with the Mixtape Comedy Show, a musical comedy hosted by Watkins and Anthony Anderson at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York every third Sunday. This year, the Mixtape Comedy Show celebrates its four-year anniversary. With nearly two decades in the business, Watkins has been in and out of some of the country's most happening comedy clubs. See his picks for the best in the country.

Gotham Comedy Club

NEW YORK - "It’s my home club for the Mixtape Comedy Show. The owner and management go out of their way to accommodate the patrons and make the comedy experience right for them."
Editorial Review
No need to curb your ethusiasm at this Larry David-approved club. Comedy stars old and new flock to Gotham for crowd approval, oft fortified by wide wine and liquor selection behind the bar. Try the John Daly, a mix of sweet tea vodka and lemonade that goes well with belly laughs. Simple décor directs eyeballs to the stage. Guests have included Seinfeld, Chappelle, and resident Chelsea gay Mario Cantone.
