Dawn Richard's Favorite Restaurants (and Hookah Bar) In LA and NYC
As a founding member of the girl group Danity Kane and, more recently, of Sean Combs’ hip-hop collective Diddy-Dirty Money, Dawn Richard knows a thing or two about mobility in the music industry. Though her seamless transition from one group to the next was an impressive enough feat, Richard has truly defied the odds with her burgeoning solo career. Now an independent artist with a newly-inked distribution deal, she's about to release her debut album, “GoldenHeart." VIBE recently caught up with Richard, who shared where she likes to eat, relax, and smoke hookah in Los Angeles and New York, two cities she frequents often. The singer will be in New York to showcase some of her new material for the first time at SOB's, and she's already begun working on the video for her new single “’86.” Find out where Richard likes to spend her time out of the spotlight, and which guilty pleasure has her traveling across the Brooklyn Bridge every chance she gets.

Junior's
NEW YORK: When she's in the city, Richard doesn't hesitate to cross the Brooklyn bridge for cupcakes from Junior's. "I get the sprinkles. Don’t judge me! I just need you to understand that they’re so good your whole life will change! I like to get them in the morning. Diddy used to laugh at me when I was living in Daddy’s House [recording studio] because I was always going over there for more."
Editorial Review
With its signature cheesecake and other sugary desserts, it's no wonder Sean "Diddy" Combs once sent his "Making the Band" proteges across the Brooklyn Bridge (by foot) to get him some strawberry cheesecake. Though the old diner, which opened its doors in 1950, was famous long before the hip-hop mogul's popular MTV show, it remains a diner staple. Try not to get trampled in the rush to the bakery counter. Crowd covers every corner of the borough. Diner menu spans the universe, but stick to classics like burgers, fries and steak. Vegasy tourist trappings, but locals still respect the landmark. Save yourself a trip to the BK with Junior's Grand Central and Times Square locations.
