R&B Divas' Monifah Shares Her Favorite Restaurants in NYC and ATL
While Monifah Carter is best known today as the star of the reality TV series R&B Divas--where she opened up about her sexuality and personal battles with drugs--she was once a thriving singer on top of the music charts. But like many artists in that cutthroat industry, Monifah failed to maintain the momentum of her once-flourishing career. With the successful show, however, Monifah, along with singers Faith Evans, KeKe Wyatt, Syleena Johnson, and Nicci Gilbert, got a second shot at fame. “It’s a complete new connection to the new generation and a re-connection with the older generation,” Monifah tells VIBE. “Most of my Twitter followers are younger, and they’re going back and finding my old music.” Many of those followers look for guidance from Monifah, who has been candid about her relationship with her girlfriend Terez, who she plans to marry someday. Though she recorded a compilation album with her cast mates, Monifah says she’s taking her time working on a solo album. Currently, she’s enjoying the success of the show and her redefined stardom. In addition to revealing what’s on her iPod (Chrisette Michele, Anthony Hamilton, India Arie), she told us she's working on landing a collaboration with Jill Scott. Here, Monifah guides VIBE to where she likes to go for date nights, and other favorite restaurants in Atlanta and her hometown of New York.

Cafeteria
NEW YORK--"If I want some good American food I go to Cafeteria. I love the macaroni and cheese, and the meatloaf is the business--just great food! Anything you order there, it’s a win."
Editorial Review
Gooey mac-n-cheese, sweet potato fries, and fried chicken with waffles served 24 hours. Staff is known for falling behind, service is generally sub-par. Simple setup, close-spaced tables. Outdoor seating in summertime. People watching hotspot, but open for more than 10 years and may have lived through its glory days. If nothing else go for the amazing dishes and beautiful people.
