TJ Holmes' Six Favorite Spots to Unwind After Work in NYC and ATL

compiled by Gerren Keith Gaynor
Though many second guessed TJ Holmes’ decision to leave his anchor position at CNN--the biggest news network in the world—for a new gig on BET as the host of Don’t Sleep! With TJ Holmes, he takes it all in stride. “I get why people were scratching their heads,” he tells VIBE. “But it was the type of show I wanted to do, and BET has the cultural reach.” Holmes brilliantly couples popular culture and politics, serving engaging dialogue with guest panelists on a variety of topics regarding the black community. Holmes says his most memorable moments on the show include a serious discussion on how criminal offenders can reinstate their voting rights with rapper 2 Chainz, and a spirited chat on the type of images that are promoted by the media with the founder of MediaTakeOut.com, Fred Mwangaguhunga. Whatever the topic, Holmes has it all covered. When he’s not in front of the camera, Holmes says he likes to ditch his suit and tie for a t-shirt and jeans, and unwind with a glass of malbec wine and a plate of steak. Let him guide you to a few of his favorite restaurants in New York and Atlanta, and his go-to clothing store for casual wear.

J. Crew Men's Shop

NEW YORK--"I haven’t done a lot of shopping in New York. I do most of it in Atlanta. But I’m simple and laid back. I like to go to J. Crew. I have to always wear suits and ties on television, so anytime I’m not on TV I like to be as casual as possible. I get a lot of t-shirts and casual button-ups. I don’t buy jeans that often."
Editorial Review
Fourth brother store to Crew's burgeoning (and wildly successful) men's only spots. Special edition items like Alden shoes, Superior Label totes, Mackintosh jackets. Prepster basics and tailored suit section reminiscent of men's boutiques of the '50s. Former bank building with elegant lines, alpine details, and vintage odds and ends in the basement vault.
